Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma Leads #WorldEnvironmentDay Celebrations in Assam

On #WorldEnvironmentDay, His Excellency Honorable Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma participated in the state-level function celebrated at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, Guwahati, as a major milestone towards environmental protection and sustainable development in Assam. The day brought under focus the determination of the state government towards forest protection, fighting climate change, and involving citizens in green efforts.

1. Flagging Off 129 Vehicles for Environment & Forest Department

To strengthen the operational capacity of the Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department, HCM Dr. Sarma flagged off 129 new vehicles. These vehicles will enhance mobility for forest personnel, enabling better monitoring, patrolling, and rapid response to environmental threats such as illegal logging and wildlife poaching.

2. Distribution of Arms to AFPF Commandos

In a move to bolster forest security, the Chief Minister distributed advanced arms to commandos of three Assam Forest Protection Force (AFPF) battalions. This initiative aims to empower frontline forest defenders with better resources to combat illegal activities and protect Assam’s rich biodiversity

3. Launch of AI-Based Deforestation Monitoring Portal

Leveraging technology for environmental protection, Dr. Sarma launched an AI-powered portal for real-time deforestation monitoring. This cutting-edge system will use satellite imagery and artificial intelligence to detect illegal tree felling, forest encroachment, and land degradation, allowing authorities to take swift action.
